Term 4, Week 2, 20th October 2022
Principal Message
We have settled back into our learning routines here at St John's as term 4 will just fly by!
It was wonderful to hear what each child got up to during the holiday break - there was plenty of action, but also plenty of much needed rest.
At the end of last term we held our 'Celebration of Writing' event (photos below) which was very well attended by our community members. It was so great to see pieces of writing that our children had written and chosen to display and these were judged using a criteria selected by the classroom teachers. Well done to all of the students who won awards on the day and we thank the CSO staff who assisted with the judging. Our teachers did a magnificent job setting up the writing displays!
We continue our writing focus this term as per our School Improvement Plan (see large picture below). Some classes are even branching into some Poetry and descriptive language as part of this focus!
This term we also welcome back our Junior Johnnie's students (Kindy 2023), who have a few more weeks with us as part of their orientation to 'big school'. The Junior Johnnies have been joining us every Friday morning and each week they have been feeling more familiar with school and more comfortable in the Kindy space. Thank you to our amazing team including Kindy teacher Ellie Bailey for all of her hard work running this program.
There are lots of events this term and these were suposed to be kick started this weekend with our St John's 'Day on the Green' Event - however this event has now been postponed to be held at a later date.

Stage 3 - Solving a Community Issue
Please see the letter below written by Stage 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
Stage 3 want to take action in our Term 4 religion unit (The Reign of God). Year 6 would like to solve a community issue in Mullumbimby.
To take this into our hands, we need to figure out what issues are negitively affecting the Mullumbimby community. We need your opinion on how we can fix these problems and what you believe needs help.
Once we know what problems to solve, we have ideas for fundraisers so we can really solve an issue in our town. If you have any ideas, please click on the link to our survey.
Anything would be much appreciated.
Thank you sincerely, from the Year 6 team.

School Supporter Caps
A new addition to our School is some School Supporter Caps. There are for sale at the front office for $15 each. It is always nice to support the community and show your support of St John's, so jump in and grab one today. The caps can't be used as a school hat by students at school unfortunately.
iPads for Sale
We have some old iPads that are for sale. These are ex-school devices that no longer work on our systems. These iPads have been reset to factory defaults, so will have no issues been set up and used at home. We are selling them with a power cord for $50. If you would like one, please see Tundra in the office.
Kind Regards,
Dave Bermingham

St John's Photo Competition
We are running a photo competition.
The theme is 'Creativity' – Hit me with your best shot.
In the theme 'Creativity' we are looking for out-of-the-box thinking (anything goes) and there are no rules or guidelines. The challenge is to experiment and intentionally capture a moment or object by doing something different.
Photos can be submitted via the school email address - sjpmull@lism.catholic.edu.au and are due by Friday 28th October with the winners announced in the Week 4 newsletter.
Happy snapping!
LIONS RECYCLE FOR SIGHT
Lions club of Brunswick Mullumbimby is asking the school communites in our shire to help them give the gift of sight. They are collecting used prescription glasses, magnifier glasses and sunglasses (withoutcase) during October. Each pair of glasses will be refurbished and a person in a developing country will be able to see thanks to that donation. The gfit of sight is the most precious need of children and adults throughtout the world. Become part of the greatest present an Australian can give - NEW SIGHT.
Please drop glasses into the school office during October for collection.
Please ask students and staff to collect glasses from family, grandparents, friends, neigbours for our lions eye glasses recyling project. Ask children to not take granny's glasses whilst she is having a nanna nap
